Marketing Agency Advice: Questions to Ask BEFORE You Hire a Marketing Agency

So you’re thinking about hiring a marketing / advertising agency, huh?
Well, watch this video and answer these critical questions if you’re considering hiring a marketing or advertising agency to help your business stand out from the crowd and connect with your customers.

There have been a couple topics that have been tossed around the office, and also tossed around my clients’ offices lately. It really boils down to what can we do for you? Why should you bother talking to me, talking to The Fowler Group, letting us inside your brain, your culture, inside your money? I’m not asking you to spend more money. I’m asking you to spend smarter money. How do you know what smarter money is? How do you know that the decisions and the budgetary items that you have are actually going to move your business forward? How I know to ask that question is I want you to think about when and how often do you actually get a chance to audit your strategy, audit your communication tools, and audit your results? That’s right. You don’t. You don’t have time. You are overwhelmed. Every company out there is streamlined right now, and it’s frustrating. You don’t know. You can’t step back and figure out, hey is this working for us guys? Is that actually smart to sign our name on that dotted line and send us that check and pay that invoice. So, who can you get to do that? Who can come in and make sure that you are spending smarter money, not just spending more money, just throwing at it. One other thing about working with an agency is that once we get inside, we really begin to champion and advocate, not for you, but for your brand image and also for your long-term goals. Initially when I come in there, I’m going to say, “What do you want to accomplish?” Then, we’re going to take that as a starting point, and we’re going to figure out how to get you there. And so, a couple questions that we had jotted down that just seemed so apropos for today. How do you know your marketing decisions are not going to get you fired? There’s a lot of talk about going to the edge and doing some really exciting things, but how can you market fearlessly if you’re completely fearful? Maybe, an agency might be an answer for you to be able to reach that point but hold me accountable. Also, who can you trust to challenge your bad ideas? How do you know if it’s a bad idea? Do you have a structure in there where people are so nervous and so head down because they’re so overworked that they best not speak up and challenge the next new thing that’s on the table because it’s just going to create even more work for them? Also, how do you challenge good ideas? How do you flesh that out? Who’s going to do that? Who’s going to flesh out whether or not this is a good idea for you and how to make it even better? Maybe, a few questions that you might want to toss around inside and find out if there’s actually a person, a brave person, a courageous person, inside your organization anywhere that can help you do that. Because, from what I’ve seen out there lately, there’s nobody that can advocate for you and champion for you to be able to do that. But an agency just might create the kind of space that you need to really problem solve, to really innovate, to get back to the place where work was exciting. You really felt that you were moving forward, striving and achieving. Let’s make something a little bit more meaningful and something that is actually remarkable.
